Children’s “Prose in the Past” Camp
August 27, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
$10
Do you know children who love literature and history? This camp was created with them in mind. It will take them back in time and give an insight into school and children’s lives 150 years ago.
When: Fridays in August 9am – 3pm
Cost: $10
Who: Roughly grades 4 – 8, must be able to write independently and like to write
The idea is that we will have the children ‘experience’ what a small school would have been like about 150 years ago when Sir Andrew was going to school (minus the learning Latin and Greek in grade 4!!) It will therefore be a 1 room school with all ages receiving instruction together.
The day will include some creative writing, a tour of the house, penmanship, a walk along the stream, some old fashioned races – 3 legged, potato sack etc. We will finish off with them working in groups and contrasting their childhoods to children on PEI in the mid 1800s.
What they will need:
- lunch (we will supply am and pm snacks)
- we encourage girls to wear dresses and hat and boys to wear pants and caps if they would like to
bug spray, - comfy shoes for walking along the stream,
- a notebook to write in if they have one
